Former postman stumbles under the pressure after receiving invitation to play

Alfie Plant struggled on his first outing on to the professional golf circuit after failing to make the cut in the Portugal Masters.

The former Dartford postman, 25, who lives in Bexleyheath, picked up a silver medal at The Open this year after he shot the best round of any amateur at Royal Birkdale in July,

And after competing in the amateur tournament the Walker Cup earlier this year he took the plunge and turned pro.

Given an invitation to perform at the prestigious event which started last week and concluded this weekend, he carded two round of three over par, to leave him six over in total and below the requirement to compete in the final two rounds. It also meant he missed out on any prize money.
