Henry hammers home late winner for Millwall
05 November 2009
JAMES Henry's stoppage time winner saw Millwall end Colchester's nine-match unbeaten run in League One at the Den.
The on-loan Reading winger struck a stunning free-kick in the dying moments last Saturday to seal a dramatic comeback for the Lions, who had trailed the Us since Anthony Wordsworth's18th-minute opener.
Full-back Alan Dunne levelled the contest six minutes past the hour before Henry sent the Zampa Road faithful into raptures with his late salvo.
Millwall made a decent start with Jimmy Abdou and Danny Schofield going close prior to Us striker Kayode Odejayi's shot being saved by David Forde.
Colchester then opened the scoring 18 minutes in as Wordsworth's free-kick found its way past Forde via a Marc Laird deflection.
Both sides endeavoured to notch the crucial second goal, with Neil Harris and Wordsworth volleying wide before the latter again went close with a low drive on 39 minutes.
Schofield then wasted a glorious chance when he struck wide from Chris Hackett's cross on the stroke of half-time.
Kevin Lisbie missed two decent openings early in the second period before Millwall finally drew level on 66 minutes.
Abdou's centre was cleared only as far as Dunne, who fired home a marvellous 30-yard volley.
The hosts then ploughed on the pressure in a bid to take the spoils, with Harris and substitute Jason Price both missing successive opportunities.
Wordsworth almost underlined an all-action display as he crashed a drive against the bar in injury time, yet it was substitute Henry who had the final say moments later with a successful last-gasp free-kick.
