Artists 1717 Alliance will be working with students from Thamesview, St Georges and Northfleet Technology College to produce a street art mural to go along the hoarding of Jackson Civil Engineering building works.

The artists are going to Thamesview School on February 27 and 28 to work on the boards, on Rathmore Road, which will cover the theme of 500 years of Gravesend’s river history.

Funding provided by Jackson Civil Engineering and Gravesham Borough Council, will supply the materials needed to complete the project.

Cllr Jordan Meade, cabinet member for heritage, tourism, the arts and young people said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people in Gravesham to be creative and work with a team of professional artists, learn new skills and embrace the rich heritage of our great town.”

Jackson’s public liaison officer, Carole Jones, said: “The street art project will be a great way of brightening up the site hoarding, which faces Lord Street, and will help to raise awareness of Gravesend’s vibrant history.”

The works on Rathmore Road Improvement Scheme in Gravesend has been designed to improve traffic flows by introducing a new two-way link road.
