Three time BBC Radio Two playlisted artist Callaghan has announced she will be touring and coming to Kent following the release of her EP, The Other Side.

Moving further towards pop than before, The Other Side marks a change in direction for the US-based singer.

The four-track album includes her most up-tempo, and also her most political song to date.

She said: “I tend to stay away from politics in my music, but having been in the UK for the referendum and the US for the elections I wanted to write a song that touched on how divided people have become, and how some political leaders offer simple solutions to very complex problems.”

The EP was recorded in LA with production from Anthony Resta (Elton John, Duran Duran, and Blondie). Having created music for Hollywood films, Callaghan said working with Resta gave her the opportunity to explore a sound that her previous songwriting has always leaned towards.

“It’s been an amazing experience to write and record in LA, with such a fantastically talented group of producers and musicians,” she added. “We wanted to create songs which draw the listener in, paint pictures in your mind and stir your emtotions.”

The Other Side is the first of three EPs planned for the next 12 months. Callaghan explains: “The way that people consume music these days has changed so much, and EPs seem to fit with people’s appetite for new music little and often. It also gives me the freedom to share new music more often and really concentrate on producing four great songs every few months.”

The singer will be performing at Joy Festival in Tunbridge Wells this week, on June 17, and then at Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre on July 8.
