EastEnders star and comedian Shane Richie will be starring in Dick Whittington at The Orchard Theatre, Dartford.

The popular TV name will be swapping Walford pub the Queen Vic for for the leading role in the pantomime.

Best-know for playing the role of Alfie Moon in the BBC One soap, Mr Richie has been recognised with numerous awards- including the National Television Awards where he triumphed in the most popular actor category.

He has also recently fronted a new game Saturday evening game show called Win Your Wish List.

Mr Richie has combined his theatre and TV career with film roles- including Porter in a Channel 4 film version of Macbeth.

He has also featured in the Dreamworks film Flushed Away alongside stars such as Hugh Jackman and Kate Winslet.

His West End credits include playing Danny Zuko in Grease and he has performed Boogie Nights The Musical.

Dick Whittington is produced by Qdos Entertainment.

Michael Harrison, managing director of Qdos’s pantomime division, is looking forward to Mr Richie’s involvement in the panto season.

He said: “Shane is an outstanding comedy actor and we’re absolutely delighted to have his immense talent at The Orchard Theatre this Christmas.

“Wherever Shane appears in pantomime tickets always sell quickly, so early booking is strongly advised.”

Theatre director Chris Glover added: “Our panto is now one of the biggest and most popular in the south east with 95 per cent attendance for the last two years.

“We are excited that Shane Richie will be joining us this year and are confident that it will become another record-breaking production for Dartford.”

The show will be opening at The Orchard Theatre on December 12 and it will be running until January 3 2016.

Tickets for the show are available to purchase now.
