This is Leanne Jones third panto
Gravesend’s Leanne Jones has had a whirlwind rise to stage fame and now she is making her way to Gravesend for this year’s Christmas panto.
At just 22, she starred in West End musical Hairspray. She went from working in a bank to playing one of the lead roles in the hit musical Hairspray, playing Tracy Turnblad in the original West End cast in 2007 alongside Michael Ball. And her explosion into the theatre world was not unrecognised. Just a year later she won an Olivier Award and the Theatregoers’ Choice Award for Best Actress in a musical.
But now, at 31, she is keeping her local connections close to her heart and will be spreading her magic in The Woodville this Christmas as she plays Fairy Fabulous in Jack and the Beanstalk.
It’s her third panto and will be her second Jack and the Beanstalk production.
And it’s the lead up to the show that she can’t wait for. She said: “I am looking forward to being in a rehearsal environment again, all working together to work out an excellent show for everyone. And for being able to walk to work.”
That’s the bonus for the actress, who has lived in Gravesend for three and a half years.
The actress continued: “I have made friends for life here in Gravesend. Being a mummy is definitely easier living in a town like this, so many playgroups to attend. And also I found lots of like-minded young women whose partners had moved them here so they could commute and work in London. I’m very happy here now. And everything is so much cheaper than London.”
The panto is running from December 10 to January 2 2017.
