Mister Maker is a TV show on CBeebies but is currently doing a live tour

Children’s TV star Phil Gallagher will be returning to the county when he visits Margate and Bromley in the coming months.

Phil - who has appeared at Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre in three pantomimes - will be appearing as CBeebies’ Mister Maker in his first live tour.

His live show, Mister Maker and The Shapes, features a big ‘make’ to take part in and songs to join in with.

He said: “After many auditions, I was chosen to be the man in the spotty waistcoat and since our first series, I’ve been able tot get involved behing the camera as well as in front of it.

“I am one of the scriptwriters of the TV show and now I’m touring with the live theatre show, that I’ve written.

“It sounds cliché, but being Mister Maker is my dream job. I always wanted to be a children’s TV presenter and to be one now, on a show that encourages fun and creativity, is a dream come true.”

Even at the age od 40, Phil claims, that really he’s just a “big kid”.

“I have always loved making things and being creative, and now I am no different,” he said. “My house is covered in glitter, sticky tape and googly eyes, but I don’t mind, because arts and crafts has become my life. Being Mister Maker is a fantastic job because when I’m not touring, I put my producer had on and work on our next show, song or arty creation.”

He describes the show as a “big, bright, bold and happy live party” and adds that he’s proud to be a part of it.

Phil said: “It has art at its heart but also includes a lot of the things that make live theatre exciting - singing, dancing, audience interaction, and The Shapes. When The Shapes take to the atgem that is my favourite part of the show. The noise levels in the theatre increase, and then of course everyone sings ‘I am a shape la la la la’

“One of the things that maes me most proud is that wherever we preform our live show, children and grown-ups give us such a warm and excited response. It is heart-warming to hear the reactions of the crowd and I am so thankful for their support.”

Mister Maker and The Shapes Live is coming to Bromley’s Churchill Theatre on May 29, and Margate’s Winter Gardens on October 14.

The show is not recommended for audiences under two.
