Emmanuel Adebayor could be closer to a switch to Tottenham Hotspur after Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini admitted he has no future at the Etihad Stadium.

The Togo striker spent last season on loan at Spurs from the Citizens - where he is three years into a five-year contract – but his £170,000 wages have so far proved a sticking point in making a move to White Hart Lane permanent.

But it is thought that City will subsidise Adebayor’s salary for two seasons and hand him a reported £5 million pay-off.

Mancini has urged the former Arsenal man to accept the deal.

“I am sorry for Adebayor because he has no chance at City,” he told The Mirror.

“He has absolutely no chance of playing this season here.

“So, for us, it’s important he can find a good solution.”
