Wings brush aside Weston-super-Mare to make it a year unbeaten at Park View Road

Welling United player-manager Jamie Day described his side’s second home victory in four days as “a weird game to play in” as they continued their promotion push.

The Wings, who secured a 2-1 win against Bromley on Saturday, saw mid-table Weston enjoy plenty of possession and display freedom in their play.

But goals by skipper Jack Parkinson and striker Loick Pires were enough to seal the points as Welling claimed their fourth win in five outings to join second-placed Dartford on 63 points.

And Day was simply satisfied that his men got the right result to remain unbeaten at Park View Road in the league this season.

Day said: “It was a weird game to play in. Weston had a lot of possession and they don’t really have anything to play for so could pass the ball around and take risks.

“It was a workmanlike performance from us, but we got the three points and that’s what counts at this stage of the season.”

Welling started brightly and Joe Healy had the Wings’ first chance when he shot wide from the edge of the area.

Day then went close with a fierce drive that went inches wide after his original free-kick had rebounded straight back to him.

The hosts went in front after 25 minutes when Day laid a free-kick off to Parkinson, whose ferocious drive swerved past the stationery Lloyd Irish into the top corner of the Weston goal.

Day said: “It was a good strike from Jack and the keeper’s not going to save that.”

Weston, who played some nice passing football without much of a cutting edge, had their best opportunity of the half just before the break when Ben Cleverley miscued his effort wide.

Welling doubled their lead just five minutes into the second half.

Substitute Lee Clarke pressured defender Jason Price and keeper Irish and the ball fell to the gleeful Pires, who coolly finished to put his side two up.

Weston pressed forward and Craig Holloway produced a fine save to deny Sahr Kabba, before Welling produced a counter-attack and Pires forced Irish into a great stop at the other end.

On Saturday, Scott Kinch scored his first Welling goal midway through the first half as the Wings got the better of an improving Bromley side.

Hakeem Araba levelled just after the break, before Dean Cracknell struck the winner for the Wings with 14 minutes remaining.

Welling United: Holloway, Sambrook, Obersteller, Kinch (Clarke, 46 mins), Acheampong, Parkinson, Cracknell (Greenhalgh, 67 mins), Day, Cumbers, Healy, Pires. Subs not used: Martin, Baker, Flack.

Attendance: 387.

Having a brand new kitchen is something that lots of people want but can only dream of. Sadly keeping up to date and making our living spaces as nice as they can be is a costly and incredibly stressful business. Even a fresh coat of paint makes all the difference but isn’t easy or quick.

Who wouldn’t love the chance to go on a shopping spree. Imagine being able to walk into a shop and choose whatever your heart desires without having to worry about how much it costs.
