A £2,500 reward is being offered to anyone who can help police catch a commuting criminal suspected of more than a dozen burglaries.

Officers believe Simon Knights, 39, uses the rail network to move from town to town committing burglaries, dressed smartly in a jacket, shirt and trousers.

He is thought to be responsible for more than a dozen break-ins across the south east since June last year, in which thousands of pounds of jewellery have been stolen.

Detectives from six police forces - Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Kent, Essex and the Met - are looking for Knights and are offering the reward for information that leads to his arrest and conviction.

They believe Knights is stealing cash and jewellery from homes to fund his gambling addiction and is likely to be spending money in betting shops and casinos and on fruit machines.

Knights also featured on Crimewatch earlier this month. You can watch the programme at

Detective Constable Philippa Hannard said: “Knights is now wanted by six police forces so we know he could be anywhere in the south east.

“If you have any information about where he is or has been, please get in touch.”

Knights is white, about 5’ 8” and has ginger hair and blue eyes. He is known to be a Charlton Athletic fan.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or email, quoting reference 840 of 16/06, or call Crimestoppers free and anonymously on 0800 555111.
