Some 77 scouts from the Greater London South East region received awards in recognition of their achievements at a ceremony at Beths Grammar School last week.

The youngsters were honoured with Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards after being nominated by their peers and leaders for a variety of achievements.

Award winners, all of whom were aged between 11 and 25, received medallions to go with their framed certificate and a cheque for £250 each.

Three adults were also celebrated with Leader Awards for demonstrating, in an outstanding way, an ability to motivate young people. They received a medallion and a framed certificate.

Mayor of Bexley Eileen Pallen said: “As Scout President for Bexley, I was honoured to present these prestigious Jack Petchey Achievement Awards. I have heard stories of so many scouts giving back to the local community, raising funds for good causes and being fantastic role models for young people.

“What is great is as well as reaching these achievements they get to decide how their award money is spent. Whether it is spent on a trip to reward their unit or equipment they have all supported a whole group of young people. The Jack Petchey Achievement Award winners have shown how much this generation give back, it gives me great hope for the future.”

Deputy mayor of Bromley Hannah Gray added: “It has been a fantastic evening and I am incredibly proud of these young people and their achievements. I have high hopes for the future and it is only through the Jack Petchey scheme that these achievements have come to light.

“Young people today do not get the recognition they deserve and that is why I love the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards for highlighting the real image of young people today.”

The awards were presented at a special ceremony on Thursday, September 29.
