A local restaurant has received a prestigious culinary award, after being crowned London’s top curry restaurant.

The Maharaja, based in Bexley High Street, was one of top national recipients of the Bangladeshi Caterers Association (BCA) Restaurant of the Year award.

The winners were announced last month, at a ceremony at the Park Plaza Hotel in Westminster.

Among the attendants on the night were MasterChef’s Gregg Wallace and presenter Tasmin Lucia-Khan.

Restaurant owner Gulam Rabbani Ahad picked up the award, along with nine other restaurant owners from across the country.

The night also celebrated 10 winners from the Chef of the Year awards.

President of the BCA, Pasha Khandaker said: “Another year of culinary excellence seeded by our ancestors that has now become a vibrant part of Britain’s heritage and has created millions of curry lovers across the nation, we are immensely proud of all the winners today that they stay strong, focused on positive to drive our industry forward even in times of great hardships.”
