Sport stars of the future gathered to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Bexley’s Sporting Best scheme last week.

The mayor of Bexley, Cllr Sharon Massey, hosted the cream of the borough’s crop, who are all looking to achieve greatness on the track and field.

Sporting Best, sponsored by Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd, aims to act as a stepping stone for young people with hopes of turning professional - or joining a world class programme.

There are currently 20 young people on the programme, aged 14 to 26, who all live in Bexley and are nationally ranked in their field.

Cllr Don Massey, cabinet member for community safety and leisure, said: “The Sporting Best programme has given a real boost to some of our budding young athletes over the past five years.

“I am extremely proud of our athletes and hope that the scheme continues to go from strength to strength.”

Former Sporting Best alumni include Kent cricketer Adam Ball, and professional boxer Lewis Pettit. For more information, visit
