A Bexley waste crew received a prestigious award on Wednesday (January 24), at Serco’s Global Pulse Awards in Wales.

The awards celebrate employees of Serco, the council’s waste and recycling contractor, that have done extraordinary things for their colleagues, customers or communities.

Jason Baker and Kris Wilson, operating in Nuxley Village, were nominated after they helped an older resident who had been a victim of theft.

The crew used their own money to get her heating and electricity back on and bought her some food shopping.

They also arranged for a further £50 worth of shopping vouchers to be gifted to the resident.

Cllr Peter Craske, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Environment and Leisure, said: “Serco collect over 1,500 tonnes of waste and recycling in our borough each week and cover over 1,150 miles of Bexley roads, but the Nuxley Village waste crew have really have gone the extra mile! This random act of kindness is truly inspirational.”
