John Graham Kerlen, who blogs under the name Sir Olly C, was cleared of the charge at Woolwich Crown Court on Friday of last week (August 17).

He did not deny posting two messages about Cllr Melvin Seymour last October but claimed that his comments were flippant and should not be taken seriously.

Mr Kerlen intimated that he was going to post Cllr Seymour’s address on the social networking site but did not carry this out.

The 37-year-old was convicted of the offence in April at Bexleyheath Magistrates Court but immediately announced his intention to appeal. The court ordered him to pay £620 in costs, carry out 80 hours community service and handed him a restraining order preventing him from having any direct or indirect contact with Bexley councillors.
