Bexley schools prepare to go on strike

Teachers from two unions are planning to strike starting next Wednesday (September 26), disrupting schools across Bexley.
Members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and NASUWT, the largest teachers’ union in the country, are taking industrial action in an ongoing dispute over pay, pensions and conditions.
The action will include a work to rule, not attending school meetings and some extra-curricular activities, not filling in forms or covering for absent staff, and refusing to invigilate on public exams including Sats and GCSEs.
The unions most recently held a strike in March which is yet to be resolved.
NUT general secretary Christine Blower said: “Teacher morale is dangerously low. For the sake of teachers and children these constant attacks from the government need to stop.”
