Students in 19 secondary schools in Bexley have been presented with awards to recognise a range of achievements.

Bexleyheath Academy, Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar and Welling schools were among those with pupils receiving Jack Petchey Achievement Awards.

Winners included Blair Chandler and Jennifer Farmer, both 16 and pupils at Bexleyheath Academy, who were part of a group of four students who came to the rescue of a pensioner who fell over at her home.

In total 135 pupils from the Bexley area received a certificate and a £250 cheque in the ceremony in Dartford’s Orchard Theatre.
