The brutal assault left a 22-year-old man requiring 54 stitches after he was bottled with a broken glass

A vicious asault in a Dartford nightclub has led to two Bexleyheath men spending a combined sentence of over 16 years behind bars.

On the evening of Saturday May 4 2013, a 22-year-old man out with his friends at Crush nightclub in Spital Street was approached by 27-year-old Liam Burke and 23-year-old Kenny Burke.

The victim was struck in the face with a broken glass bottle by Kenny Burke whilst Liam Burke repeatedly punched and kicked him.

He later left the nightclub where he required immediate hospital treatment including 54 stitches.

Liam Burke was found by the police officers nearby with bloodied clothing and a swollen right hand. He was arrested on suspicion of committing the assault.

Kenny Burke was later located and arrested for the same offence.

They were both charged with grevious bodily harm with intent and pleaded not guilty at court - but they were subsequently found guilty by the jury.

At Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday October 11, Kenny Burke was sentenced to a prison term of nine years and Liam Burke to a term of seven-and-a-half years.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable James Greenidge said:

“This was a particularly violent attack that caused horrific facial injuries. The court heard how the attack has had a significant effect on the victim.

“I would like to commend the victim and witnesses for their courage and assistance throughout the length of the trial process.”
