The counselling service han only respond to three out of four callers at present

Businesses in Bexley have been asked to raise £2,000 each to help the NSPCC reach more children.

The charity’s Childline service, which costs £30,000 a day to run, has helped four million children since launching in 1986 but can currently answer only three out of every four contacts.

The 30 for 30 initiative calls for 30 companies across the borough to raise £2,000 each so the free 24/7 counselling service can reach more young people needing support.

Childline helps youngsters affected by issues such as low self-esteem and unhappiness, abuse, bullying and online bullying and self-harm.

Helen Beattie, Childline service manager for London and the south east, said: “We need to answer every child. That requires more volunteers and more investment so we can grow to meet the demand.

“I hope businesses across Bexley will help us celebrate 30 years of Childline’s vital work, by signing up to our 30 for 30 initiative to help us continue with our work to protect children from pain and save precious young lives.”
