Danson Youth Trust reached a deal with Bexley council

Fears over the future of a popular youth centre have been calmed after a new lease was agreed.

Bexley council has agreed the deal with Danson Youth Trust for the Danson Youth Centre.

The new deal means the trust will be able to continue to run services from the centre on Brampton Road.

The trust will pay rent on a rising scale over the course of its five-year lease, with the first year rent free.

In addition, the council will be able to hire parts of the centre for targeted work with children and young people.

Cabinet member for children’s services Phillip Read said: “We have always stressed our willingness to work the Danson Youth trust to maintain their service and I’m glad to say we have now reached a satisfactory agreement that provides an improved service for young people at a lower cost for council taxpayers.

“In the past the Trust was fortunate in benefiting from an historical agreement that the Council could not be expected to sustain in today’s financial climate so I am really pleased we have now reached an agreement that is fair for everyone involved.”
