Police seized a haul of fifty tennis-ball sized packets of crack in Bexley during an operation to clamp down on gangs across London.

They also discovered £10,000 or cash, two large compressed cases of skunk cannabis and a kilo of heroin at addresses in Bexley as part of a series of raids over three days.

Across the capital 515 gang related arrests were made between February 8 and 10 and a huge amounts of weapons, drugs and cash were seized in the operation which involved nearly 5,000 police officers.

Det Chief Supt Stuart Cundy, from the new Trident Gang Crime Command said: “We are absolutely delighted that the carefully planned three days of operations have yielded such excellent results.”

He added: “We want to prevent young people getting involved in gang offending.

“We are working with other agencies to offer them routes out, such as the conflict resolution service we can refer people to, as well other types of assistance from other statutory and voluntary partners.”

Police also visited gang members in Bexley and Greenwich to encourage them to abandon gang involvement.
