More than 200 pupils took part in the seven km run around the Iron Mill Lane school and nearby woods, raising £2,649.90 in total between them.

Head teacher Marilyn Davies said: “We do this event every year but this time we’ve broken all fundraising records.

“Epilepsy affects many people and the work this charity does great work both in and out of schools. I am delighted to hand over this money.”

Young Epilepsy supports the 112,000 people across the country under the age of 25 who live with the condition. It was chosen as St Paulinus’ school of choice this year because of a personal connection between some of the students and epilepsy.

The charity’s fundraising manager James Hunt said: “This is a fantastic amount raised. I’d like to thank everyone at the school who helped organise the event, everyone’s friends and family for participating and most of all those who donated.”
