Dartford crossing set to shut for maintenance and construction next week

Work on the crossing will take place overnight to minimise traffic trouble

Maintenance and construction work is set to take place at the Dartford Crossing next week.

Work to improve journeys at the crossing will continue through the week, with the southbound exit slip road at the A282 junction 1a at Swanscombe closed overnight from Monday for five nights. Highways England says that a clearly signed diversion will be put in place for motorists. The northbound slip road will also be shut on August 14 and 16.

The two tunnels at Dartford will also be closed overnight through the week, with the east tunnel being shut to traffic between Monday and Thursday and then again on Saturday August 15. the west tunnel will be shut on Friday and Sunday (August 14 and 16).

Highways England will also be doing work on the QEII Bridge, which will have three (of four) lanes closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday August 10 for five nights and also on Sunday August 16.

On Saturday August 15 the QEII Bridge will be closed between 10pm and 5.30am, with a clearly signed diversion in place via the A13, Blackwall Tunnel and A2. From 5.30am until 8am on Sunday August 16 three (of four) lanes on the QEII Bridge will be closed.
