David Evennett brands Theresa May’s Conservative conference speech ‘inspirational’

The speech was marred by several incidents

Bexleyheath and Crayford’s MP has given his backing to Theresa May after the Conservative Party Conference ended on Wednesday.

David Evennett branded the prime minister’s speech, which was marred by a coughing fit, a failing backdrop and a prankster handing Mrs May a P45, as a “inspirational”.

The PM has come under scrutiny since her speech, with reports suggesting some backbenchers are looking to oust her from leadership.

But the Tory MP, who was first elected in 1983, has given his backing following the conference in Manchester.

He said: “This was a constructive conference and the highlights of the week were without doubt the prime minister’s inspirational speech, as well as the speeches from Brexit secretary David Davis and foreign secretary Boris Johnson, who set out our bold and ambitious vision for our future relationship with the EU and the rest of the world.”
