Deliberate fires in Bexley have decreased by 84 per cent in the last 10 years according to new figures released by the London Fire Brigade today (September 17).

In 2001/02 there were 1,277 deliberate figures, a number which fell to 206 in the last year. That totals around four a week.

Cyril O’Brien, Bexley fire borough commander for Bexley, said: “This dramatic decrease means Londoners are far safer from these needless acts of destruction than they were 10 years ago.”

Despite the large fall in numbers, fire chiefs are urging people to report abandoned vehicles or rubbish to the council to keep the figures low.
