Kent and London Euro MP and former UKIP member Janice Atkinson, who lives in Chislehurst, has allied herself with French far-right leader Marine Le Pen.

The pair have launched a coalition in the European Parliament called the Europe of Nations and Freedom.

Mme Le Pen is the leader of France’s National Front, a nationalist party which opposes immigration. She once compared Muslims praying in the streets of France to the Nazi occupation.

Mrs Atkinson was Ukip’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Shepway until she was expelled from the party in March amid allegations over her expenses. She is now an independent MEP.

She said: “Today is a historic day for all in Britain and across Europe who stand opposed to the European superstate.

“The bitter fruits of the European project are an everyday reality for citizens in Britain and for the whole continent. The mercilessness of the European agenda is felt by millions across Europe impoverished by the euro. Mass immigration into Britain and Europe continues to accelerate at the behest of the same EU ideology. Choices over our own laws are taken out of the hands of voters, leaving national parliaments powerless to resist the decrees of the unelected European Commission.

“This disastrous political project requires a firm political response. Our coalition brings new weight to bear against the Brussels machine.

“My partners believe in their own countries as I believe in Britain. As Britain’s referendum on the EU approaches, we should remember that we carry the hopes of millions not only in our own country who want to govern themselves, but also that this most natural political wish is the aspiration of so many millions across Europe as well.”

  • Well done Janice Atkinson for joining up with Marine le Pen, and also for leaving Islam loving UKIP.
