When questions were raised over teenage Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen after she knocked five seconds off her personal best, the national press came to Versapak Doping Control Ltd, in Veridion Way, to understand more about the doping process.

Managing director Leon Edwards said: “News reports needed an authoritative view of what was going on so came to us. Journalists wanted to understand more about the athlete dope testing process.”

The company has been in Erith for over 30 years and has 20 employees. It is about to launch a new blood sample transport kit which will be used worldwide to detect doping in sport.

Director Julia Smallbone said: “We were delighted to see our company on the national news. The team here are very proud of what we do and it was nice to get some recognition for what we do.”
