Animals on “death row” saved by an Abbey Wood charity are set to be given a helping hand by some reality TV stars this weekend.

A fundraiser to help support New Hope Animal Rescue move to its new seven-acre home is taking place on Saturday, with the likes of Dean Ralph from Ex on the Beach and Love Island’s Amelia Peters also appearing.

Niall Lester started off saving wounded pigeons when he was 13-years-old, now 35, the animal lover is sheltering some pets in his Abbey Wood home, while forking out kennel costs for other unloved pets and strays.

Says the animal welfare officer at Dartford council: “We’ve started to run out of space now, we spend most of our days running back and forth from the kennels to home.

“Not only that, but I also have a full time job, because I refuse to earn a salary out of doing this, I spend some of my own money on things like telephone bills for our drivers.

“We’re in the process of buying seven acres of land in Herne Bay, its enough space for all of the animals we shelter, that includes strays we take from the council, otherwise they’d euthanised.”

The charity says it takes in all manner of animals on “death row”, whether they be in pounds, vets or injured, including dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs and snakes and pigs.

But with the charity already spending around £100,000 on rental and veterinary costs, event organiser Laura Price has stepped in to try and raise some extra cash for the big move.

She said: “The work Niall does is amazing and there are so many people and businesses who have come forward to help out.

“We’ve already got so many items ready to auction, someone’s offered a box at the Emirates for Arsenal vs Huddersfield along with a signed Arsenal shirt, we’ve got £600 worth of hair extensions too.

“Amelia Peters is my goddaughter, so she’ll be coming, and I met Dean Ralph at a recent event, I’ve managed to twist his arm so he’ll be auctioning himself off for a date too, Dean’s partner, Chloe Crowhurst, is also coming.”

The event at David Lloyd Leisure Centre takes place at 7.30pm on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile an online fundraising page has helped boost the charity by raising more than £17,000.
