Budding film-makers can enter their films for free into next year’s Rob Knox film festival.

Set to open on Tuesday, May 29, at the New Generation Church in Birkbeck Road, Sidcup, it will close with the award’s night at the Cineworld in the Broadway, Bexleyheath, on Saturday, June 9.

The festival was set up three years ago in memory of Rob Knox, 18, who was murdered in Sidcup in May 2008, and appeared as the character Marcus Belby in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince after studying at the D&B drama school in Bromley Road, Bromley.

Festival director Michael Wearing said: “It is a local festival aimed at local people especially the young, but we have gained an international reputation. We know that filmmakers at all stages of their careers and those just doing it for fun have a desire for their films to be seen by others, and we try to make that happen for as many of them as we can.”

The eight categories include best film, director, screenplay, actor, actress, best film under five minutes, best community film and best 99 per cent film for raising the profile of positive activities by young people.
