Former Welling pupil Gemma Gibbons qualified for a judo final as she aims to be Britain’s first ever Olympic gold medal in the sport.

The 25-year-old, who went to Harris Academy Falconwood (formerly Westwood College) defeated French world champion Audrey Tcheumeo in the semi-final today to guarantee that she will win her country’s first judo medal since the 2000 Games in Sydney.

The Charlton resident faces American Kayla Harrison at 4pm at the ExCel Arena in Newham.
