100 car parking spaces are to be made available

Parking in the build up to Christmas will be made a little easier for Bexleyheath shoppers.

100 car parking spaces at the rear of Civic Offices, Watling Street, will be freed up at weekends in the lead up to Christmas and the New Year.

The car park is within walking distance of the town centre and can be accessed from Erith Road.

Opening hours will be all day on the following days: Saturdays, Sundays, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, December 28 and New Years Day.

Parking will be free, except on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December when volunteers will invite car park users to make a donation to the Mayor’s Charity Appeal.

Alex Sawyer, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for traffic and transport said: “We are making the Civic Offices car park available because parking spaces are in short supply in the town centre while two key sites await development.

“We hope to alleviate a bit of the strain for town centre shoppers - and at the same time, raise funds for a worthy cause.

“The Mayor’s Charity supports Bexley SNAP and the Bird College of Music to provide musical activities for local children who have a wide range of disabilities.”
