A Greenwich man has been charged with theft by finding after being accused of stealing a high value violin on a Kent train.

British Transport Police last week launched an investigation after the 100-year-old instrument was reported stolen on a service between Barnehurst and Dartford.

The violin was swiftly returned to its owner just hours after a public appeal was made.

Officers charged Sam John McCarthy, 33, of Commonwealth Way on Thursday, and he is due to appear before Highbury Magistrates Court on June 26.
