Police seek witnesses to horror smash

Police say a man is in custody after being arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after an horrific smash at the Dartford Crossing brought chaos to motorists and left a young woman fighting for her life.

Police were called just after 4.40am this morning (Friday) after a sliver Audi A1 was involved in a smash with a lorry on the southbound carriageway of the river crossing.

The smash occured on the Kent side of the QEII Bridge.

A woman in her twenties has been taken to a London hospital following the smash. She has serious life-threatening injuries.

Now police want to hear from anyone who saw the lorry, which is a white in colour with red and blue writing on the side, and which was towing a drawbar trailer, in the moments before the collision.

The bridge reopened at around 1.30pm.

One man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remains in custody at this time.
