‘I felt like a cat running out of lives’ - Rav Bansal on his time inside the Great British Bake Off tent

The Erith baker was the sixth baker to leave the series
After wowing with showstoppers and some scathing remarks from the judges, Rav Bansal’s time in the Bake Off tent came to an end last week.
The Erith baker became the sixth person to leave the tent in last week’s Great British Bake Off.
Mr Bansal’s performance was a mixed batch of dazzling showstoppers and a couple of disastrous technical challenges.
Despite never earning the title of Star Baker, the university support worker was proud of his time on the BBC series.
He said: “I was so proud to get past the half way mark, my biggest fear was getting kicked out first, and I did feel like a cat that was running out of its lives.
“All the way through whenever I was doing badly, I somehow managed to pull it back.
“It was an up and down ride, but I went out with a smile on my face.”
Last month it was revealed Mr Bansal had suffered racist abuse on social media, but the foodie told of how his time on the show was “the best experience of my life”.
The 28-year-old explained how he had become something of a celebrity after appearing on the much-loved series.
He said: “The twitter explosion has been really exciting, and the amount of love from the word go was kind of overwhelming at first, but I think it’s symbolic of how people are passionate about the show.
“At work when people come to me for advice, about 80 per cent of the want to talk about Bake Off.
“I have had students chasing me down the corridor asking for a selfie.”
The keen baker fell from the competition last week, and has been open about the difficult tests he faced.
“My worst moment was definitely botanical week. Piping your own flowers was difficult and I have always been open that my bakes are not pretty.
“I would rather they taste good than look good, so I think that my ultimate downfall.”
While Rav fell from the competition, Beckenham baker Jane Beedle remains.
