A BRITISH man and his carer drowned off the coast of India last Sunday.

Stanley Horne, 70, believed to be from Bexley, and his friend Liesel Smith, 37, from Dover, drowned after going for a swim at the resort Morjim in Goa.

It brings the death toll of Britons in the Indian state to 12 this year, and follows the murder of 15-year-old Scarlett Keeling, from Devon who was drugged, raped and found in the sea.

Retired hospital engineer, Mr Horne - who had been living in Goa for the past four years - had met Miss Smith when they worked for the same hospital.

A post mortem was due to be carried out on Tuesday.
