Man overseeing clocks and watches at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich is honoured by Queen

The man who oversees clocks, watches and chronometers at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Jonathan Betts, senior curator of horology, has been awarded for services to horology, the art or science of measuring time.
Mr Betts oversees the work of the museum’s horology section and research into the history of clocks, watches and chronometers, an instrument for measuring time accurately in spite of motion, variations in temperature, humidity, and air pressure.
Among the collection he looks after are marine chronometers, invented by John Harrison in 1730, and used for navigation and determining longitude at sea.
Mr Betts work also includes curating exhibitions, writing books and articles, and cataloguing the horological collections.
