A motorcyclist believed to be in his 20s is in a life-threatening condition in hospital after he was in a collision with a car in Welling this morning.

The man was treated for head injuries and taken to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel by air ambulance after the incident in Upper Wickham Lane, at the junction with Balliol Road, at around 9am.

Resident Chantel Staples, 31, who lives in the road, came across the scene when she was taking her daughter to school and found the road was closed.

She said: “There are still three police cars, eight policemen and two ambulances here.

“I didn’t see it happen, but it looks very serious.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said they sent a single responder in a car as well as two ambulance crews and the air ambulance.

The police said the road is still closed after the incident.
