THE trial of two police officers and a Community Support Officer charged with assault, perverting the course of public justice and providing a false statement is set to begin next month.

THE trial of two police officers and a Community Support Officer charged with assault, perverting the course of public justice and providing a false statement is set to begin next month.

The trio based at Eltham police station - PS Marcus Garvey, 44, from Abbey Wood and PC Wayne Campbell, 40, from of Cliffe, Kent and PCSO Stefanie Loftus, 22, from Ilford, Essex are accused of lying in evidence given at a trial in March last year.

They are charged with framing Benjamin Thacker for possession of cannabis, who was later cleared of the crime at Greenwich Magistrates Court.

The case was then referred by magistrates to the Metropolitan Police for investigation.

The trio, who are all on bail are due to stand trial on Monday, September 7, which is estimated to last five to seven days.
