Protestors stage demonstration at Sidcup hospital

Angry protestors have staged a demonstration against the planned closure of Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup.
More than 40 people gathered outside the Frognal Avenue site last Wednesday (August 1) from the campaign group Save Our Local Hospitals.
The group feels the administration could be the final nail in the coffin for the Queen Mary’s, which saw its accident and emergency and maternity wards close in 2010.
South London Healthcare Trust, which is also comprised of Queen Elizabeth in Woolwich and Princess Royal in Farnborough, was placed into administration by Health Secretary Andrew Lansley last month.
The trust, which is the first NHS trust to placed into administration, is currently in £150m of debt.
Administrator Matthew Kershaw has been appointed to balance the books and will produce a draft report to Parliament on October 29. He has said the trust is overspending by £1.3m a week.
