The council has organised a free marketplace event next month to encourage landlords of properties in the borough to find out more about Rent it Right.

Landlords can find out how the scheme will help their properties meet an approved set of conditions through Rent it Right, which sees Bexley working in partnership with landlords and tenants to meet growing housing needs for local people.

The three schemes involved in the programme include:

.Rent it Right Licensing Partner: the selective in Bexley starts on October 1 2018 and applies to all private rented properties in four defined areas: Thamesmead North, AbbeyWood, Lower Belvedere and parts of Erith.

Landlords who apply for a licence before December 31 will benefit from an early bird discount.

.Rent it Right Contract Partner: This is a private sector leasing scheme for good quality properties to lease for 3-5 years to use as long term accommodation.

.Rent it Right Individual Partner: This is a Cash incentives scheme that offers landlords payments of up to £8,000 over two years and a £5,000 rent guarantee bond.

There will also be an opportunity at the event for landlords to speak with partner organisations such as the National Landlords Association, London Fire Brigade and many more.

Cabinet member for communities, Cllr Alex Sawyer, said: “The Rent it Right partnership schemes have been designed with Bexley tenants and their landlords in mind.

“We hope that by introducing these measures standards in the local rental market will be improved, providing better conditions and more choice and stability for local people.

“We hope that landlords will benefit from the additional support the different options provide.

“I’d urge anyone that rents out a property in the borough to come along and find out more about how we can work together for local people.”

The event will take place on October 2 at Hall Place from 12- 2pm.

Lunch will be provided.
