A MAN was arrested and three cars were seized during a police road safety initiative.

The Mottingham and Chislehurst North Safer Neighbourhood Team held the event in partnership with DVLA and the Met's South East Area Traffic Unit on May 6 in Grove Park Road, Mottingham.

Officers arrested the man for driving while disqualified after he had his fingerprints taken at the roadside to confirm his identity. One car was seized for being unroadworthy and two for not having insurance.

Six people were given penalty notices for talking on a mobile phone and two for failing to wear a seatbelt. DVLA officers reported 15 drivers for car tax offences, who will now be prosecuted.

Sergeant Dale Openshaw said: "The aim was to raise driver awareness of what speeding, not wearing a seatbelt or talking on a mobile whilst driving can do.

"If we have saved just one life, then it will have been worth it.
