Church’s last event attracted hundreds

A relay race, a 100m sprint and a tug of war will be among the events at an Olympic-inspired sports day later this month.

Anyone of any ability is welcome to take part in the sports day, which is being organised by Erith church the Gateway Chapel on Saturday, August 29.

It will feature a 200m sprint, a long jump, a triple jump and more and will take place from 10am to 5pm at the Leigh Academy in Dartford.

The church says the sports days, which are held twice a year, are part of its mission to improve health in the community.

The last one attracted 200 people and members are hoping for an even better turnout this time.

Last month, members offered free health advice and checks to hundreds of shoppers in Bexleyheath town centre, testing blood sugar, blood pressure and more.

Minister John Toju Ogbe said: “Sports day is a chance for our church and the community to come together, with our members showing their different athletic abilities, competitiveness and warmth.”
