Work will begin near Main Road car park on September 19

The final stage of improvement works to Sidcup is set to get underway this month - and will continue well into 2017.

Traffic and public space works along Sidcup High Street will start from September 19 and carry on for seven months.

Work will begin by Main Road car park and continue along the southern footway on Elm Parade to the junction with Elm Road.

During the works, Main Road car park will be closed for two weeks from September 19.

Bexley council claim works will see trees removed, but assured the public they would be replaced with a new species.

Maintenance contractor for the council, FM Conway will be setting up their site compound in the Grassington Road car park, near Morrisons, from September 15.

Stop/go boards will be in operation pre-Christmas.

Work will stop in the run-up to Christmas to minimise disruption to local businesses and residents during this busy period.

After Christmas work will begin on the existing signalised junction to improve traffic flow, and will include the introduction of pedestrian countdown signals. Work will also start on the northern footway, proceeding towards Hamilton Road.
