Sidcup charity boss takes on huge bike ride

A Sidcup charity boss is taking on a mammoth bike ride to raise money for his organisation.

Jim Bennett, who is chief executive of Allery UK, based on Edgington Way, is taking on Nightrider with his colleague and personal assistant Jane Josh next weekend.

The pair will join 3,000 other cyclists in getting on their bikes to trek round London at night time, from the Saturday (June 9) heading into the Sunday (June 10).

Mr Bennett said: “I believe that if you’re asking supporters to get on board for your cause, you should be willing to make your own contribution. It’s also a great excuse to get fit and do something different.”

They have raised over £1,000 so far as they head towards their target of £2,000.

The event starts at Crystal Palace just before midnight on the Saturday and goes past iconic landmarks such as the London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral, The Houses of Parliament and Tower Bridge.

The 53-year-old said: “Nightrider seemed like an unusual challenge. I’m not usually awake after midnight, let alone riding a bike!

But I thought it was a great opportunity to make a difference to someone’s life.”

Mr Bennett, who lives in Barnehurst, has previously raised money for the cause by cycling 500km in a week around Vietnam and Cambodia.
