A 29-year-old man from Sidcup has been fined £200 after pleading guilt to keeping two alligators at his home.

James Charlton, 29, unemployed, of Pembury Crescent, Sidcup, pleaded guilty to keeping the two baby Spectacled Caiman alligators in breach of the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976, at his home when he appeared at Bexley Magistrates Court on Tuesday (7).

The tiny pair, each measuring 12” long, were kept in a special tank in Charlton’s bedroom - but could eventually grow to as much as eight metres in length.

He was fined £100 for both counts and was disqualified from keeping any wild animal for five years, to run concurrently. The alligators were discovered at his home by police on January 21.
