The Sidcup High Street promotions group organised the decorating which saw every second lamp post in the town draped with banners portraying the colours of the Union flag.

There is also a plaque with further banners in the colours of the Olympic rings.

Children from Merton Court School, Knoll Road, helped the group.

The vice-chairman of the organisation, Mike Lowe, said: “It’s good to see the community coming together for such a momentous event and many Sidcup traders are making the area as bright and welcoming as possible for our shoppers to enjoy the experience.

“We hope that we’ll be able to get other traders to join in and decorate their shops too.”
