John, 88, and Pat Ford, 86, of Glenrose Court, Sidcup, who met whilst both working for South British South American Airways at the end of the war, are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary tomorrow.

Mrs Ford was an air hostess whilst Mr Ford worked as a radio navigator on the state-run airline.

After becoming engaged on a beach in Dakar, Senegal, the couple married and Mrs Ford had to leave the airline as then couples were not allowed to work together.

They had three children David, 59, Jon, 58, and Susan, 56.

Mr Ford said: "We have many things in common such as liking to go on walks."

Mrs Ford said: "I suppose we have been lucky because I have seen so much of the world. " The great-grandparents are celebrating the occasion with a family meal this Saturday.
