Students bury time capsule in Sidcup

Students at Blackfen School for Girls in Sidcup have buried a slice of modern life in part of the school’s new building.

The girls put a time capsule with letters, images and music inside a bench, which forms a seating area in a new £2million building at the secondary school in Blackfen Road.

The contents of the capsule were chosen by students and include photos of lessons, a Justin Bieber CD to give an idea of contemporary popular music, a letter from the Head teacher, Matthew Brown, and the Chair of Governors, Bill Stone, and an outline of an ordinary day at Blackfen School.

Head teacher Mr Brown said: “With the school undergoing physical changes, this is a great opportunity to capture this time and place for posterity. We hope that in years to come, staff and students will use the contents of the capsule to get an idea of how the school and its community has changed over the years. It could play a huge part in the history lessons of the future.”
