The explosion was heard in Sidcup

A fire which caused an explosion to ring out around Foots Cray on Sunday is being treated as suspicious.

The fire started at a paintball centre in Sandy Lane, Foots Cray at around 8.30am and is thought to have caused a CO2 cylinder to explode.

Reports on social media suggest a “loud bang” was heard in Swanley and Sidcup.

London Fire Brigade was called to the scene in Ruxley Woods at 8.28am.

A spokesperson from LFB said: “We were called to a small fire after reports of smoke coming from the woods in Foots Cray.

“We sent two appliances from Sidcup and Orpington stations, and the fire was under control by 8.56am.”

Met Police officers were called to the scene once the fire was out.

So far no arrests have been made, but enquiries continue.

Mayhem Southeast, which runs the paintball centre, declined to comment.
