Hundreds of people from Thamesmead turned out last Friday to join in this year’s Christmas lights switch on event.

The event saw local choirs and community stall holders joined by Santa Claus, real reindeer as well as Now’s the Time, Thamesmead’s Clubacise taster session all entertaining the packed out crowd.

The lights were turned on by sisters Melissa and Phoebe Stevens along with Peabody’s interim executive director, Pauline Ford; Erith & Thamesmead MP, Teresa Pearce.

Four-year-old Melissa Stevens said: “Tonight has been a lot of fun. I can’t believe I am turning on the Christmas lights.”

Peabody’s interim executive director for Thamesmead, Pauline Ford said: “Thamesmead town centre looks spectacular with the clock tower, Christmas tree and the areas around the shops all lit up.”

A pop-up ice rink will be available at Gallions Park in West Thamesmead this Saturday, 12 December, where Peabody will be engaging with residents about a new play area.
